Okay, New Years resolution is to put a dent in the stack of films I've unwittingly amassed. So first up is Linklater's follow up to Dazed & Confused. Now I love D&C and going in I was wary of this disappointing, so much so I convinced myself it would be rubbish. Turns out it's somewhere in between. It's pretty far from matching Linklater's best work and the all surface characters are mostly annoying. It's funny though, looks great, the music is fantastic and portrays its world spot on. Where D&C excels though is getting under the skin of the characters and this, despite attempting it in a handful of scenes fails to do that. I'm not sure why he bothered really, maybe he wanted something easy and fun after Boyhood and Everybody Wants Some!! is just that, easy and fun. Once I've got to the bottom of my film pile though, it will be Dazed & Confused that I'll be watching again.
