I'm not sure why, but I went into this expecting to be disappointed. I like Tarantino, some films I'd go so far as love, but the recent outings haven't done it for me. They're not bad films, just not as good as his others. At 3 hours, this is far too long. That said, it doesn't drag, the scenes, dialogue, characters are all masterful. Jackson and Jason-Leigh are scene stealers, but everyone shines. The epic 70mm ratio is crazy, but again it somehow works, the cinematography is beautiful. It's bloody, it's colourful, it's indulgent and controversial. It's Tarantino, getting very very close to being back to his best.
