Paper Towns (2015)

Updated: Jul 31, 2019

It starts like a John Hughes movie. Complete with main character narration and killer 80s style soundtrack. The only problem is it's 80s 'style', not the real thing. It's all surface style, with little underneath... plus it's not based in the 80s, so it's hitting the retro thing too. It's a bit of a mishmash of Goonies, Ferris Bueller, Dazed & Confused and all those American teenage discovery films. Not to put it in league with any of the above. It's fun though... and the music is good, but feels a bit OTT, dramatic and self absorbed... perhaps like American teenagers?

5/10
