This is quite an eye opener. I’d heard the stories of Carrey’s method acting on ‘Man on the Moon’, but watching it is something else, thank God someone was rolling behind the scenes. It’s highly amusing watching Milos Forman trying to deal with Carrey playing Kaufman, playing Tony Clifton, life imitating art and vice versa. There’s admiration and a lot of frustration! Reality on set gets so blurred, there’s no perceived control, is even Carrey in control? It’s fascinating. As Carrey is interviewed now about what happened on set, he says “Most people felt that the movie was happening behind the camera” and watching this I completely agree. Man on the Moon is a good film, but this is so much more. It’s a pretty philosophical look at the self and brings a whole new layer to Man on the Moon and Carrey himself.
