I'm not a boxing fan. Far from it in fact. I'm not crazy about the Rocky films either, although the original is undoubtably a classic. When this was announced, my reaction was "meh", but it got some very good reviews and you know what...... Meh. It's not without merit though. The acting is solid (Stallone particularly). The plot, albeit cheesy works well. The stuff in the ring is exhilarating, really exhilarating. However it's not rocket science, fast cuts, lots of dramatic punch sound effects and the camera bouncing around accordingly, there is some excellent camera work. If you like Rocky films, like boxing, you'll like this... it's a bit of a requirement though. There's nothing new here.
